Franklin Delano Roosevelt

BIOGRAPHY

Franklin Delano Roosevelt (January 30, 1882) was the 32nd American president who led the United States through the Great Depression and World War II, greatly expanding the powers of the federal government through a series of programs and reforms known as the New Deal. Stricken with polio in 1921, Roosevelt spent much of his adult life in a wheelchair. A whole generation of Americans grew up knowing no other president, as Roosevelt served an unprecedented four terms in office. Roosevelt’s social programs reinvented the role of government in Americans' lives, while his presidency during World War II established the United States' leadership on the world stage.

In 1910, at age 28, Roosevelt was invited to run for the New York state senate. He ran as a Democrat in a district that had voted Republican for the past 32 years. Through hard campaigning and the help of his name, he won the seat in a Democratic landslide.

As a state senator, Roosevelt opposed elements of the Democratic political machine in New York. This won him the ire of party leaders but gained him national notoriety and valuable experience in political tactics and intrigue. During this time, he formed an alliance with Louis Howe, who would shape his political career for the next 25 years. Roosevelt was reelected to the state senate in 1912 and served as chair of the agricultural committee, passing farm and labor bills and social welfare programs.

During the 1912 National Democratic Convention, Roosevelt supported presidential candidate Woodrow Wilson and was rewarded with an appointment as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, the same job his idol, Theodore Roosevelt, had used to catapult himself to the presidency. Franklin Roosevelt was energetic and an efficient administrator. He specialized in business operations, working with Congress to get budgets approved and systems modernized, and he founded the U.S. Naval Reserve. But he was restless in the position as "second chair" to his boss, Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels, who was less enthusiastic about supporting a large and efficient naval force.

In 1914, Franklin Roosevelt, decided to run for the U.S. Senate seat for New York. The proposition was doomed from the start, as he lacked White House support. President Wilson needed the Democratic political machine to get his social reforms passed and ensure his reelection. He could not support Franklin Roosevelt, who had made too many political enemies among New York Democrats. Roosevelt was soundly defeated in the primary election and learned a valuable lesson that national stature could not defeat a well-organized local political organization.Franklin D. Roosevelt took to Washington politics and found his career thriving as he developed personal relationships. At the 1920 Democratic Convention he accepted the nomination for vice president, as James M. Cox's running mate. The pair was soundly defeated by Republican Warren G. Harding in the general election, but the experience gave Roosevelt national exposure.

Roosevelt repaired his relationship with New York's Democratic political machine. He appeared at the 1924 and 1928 Democratic National Conventions to nominate New York governor Al Smith for president, which increased his national exposure.

In 1921 at the age of 39, Franklin D. Roosevelt was diagnosed with polio while vacationing at Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada. At first refusing to accept that he was permanently paralyzed, Roosevelt tried numerous therapies and even bought the Warm Springs resort in Georgia seeking a cure. Despite his efforts, he never regained the use of his legs. He later established a foundation at Warm Springs to help others, and instituted the March of Dimes program that eventually funded an effective polio vaccine.

For a time, Franklin Roosevelt was resigned to being a victim of polio, believing his political career to be over. But his wife Eleanor and political confidante Louis Howe encouraged him to continue on. Over the next several years, Roosevelt worked to improve his physical and political image. He taught himself to walk short distances in his braces. And he was careful not to be seen in public using his wheelchair.

Early in 1940, Roosevelt had not publicly announced that he would run for an unprecedented third term as president. But privately, in the middle of World War II, with Germany's victories in Europe and Japan's growing dominance in Asia, FDR felt that only he had the experience and skills to lead America in such trying times. At the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Roosevelt swept aside all challengers and received the nomination. In November, 1940, he won the presidential election against Republican Wendell Willkie.

During early 1941, with war raging in Europe, Franklin D. Roosevelt pushed to have the United States' factories become an "arsenal of democracy" for the Allies—France, Britain and Russia. As Americans learned more about the war's atrocities, isolationist sentiment diminished. Roosevelt took advantage, standing firm against the Axis Powers of Germany, Italy and Japan. Bipartisan support in Congress expanded the Army and Navy and increased the flow of supplies to the Allies.

However hopes of keeping the United States out of war ended with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Within a few months after declaring war, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, ordering all persons of Japanese descent to leave the West Coast. As a result, 120,000 people, many American citizens, were sent to internment camps located inland. Oddly, no such order applied to Hawaii, where one-third of the population was of Japanese descent, nor to Americans of Italian or German ancestry living in the United States. Nearly all Japanese Americans along the West Coast were forced to quit their jobs and sell their property and businesses at a tremendous loss. Their entire social order was turned upside down as families were given just days to leave their homes and neighborhoods and be transported to the internment camps.

For years prior to the war, racial prejudice towards Japanese Americans had fueled strong resentment and suspicion among whites living along the West Coast. Feeling pressure from military authorities and the public to protect the homeland from sabotage, Roosevelt felt relocation was the proper action. Though the U.S. Supreme Court upheld its legality in Hirabayashi v. United States and Korematsu v. United States, most legal scholars believe that internment was one of the most flagrant violations of civil liberties in American history. In 1988, Congress awarded restitution to survivors of the camps as compensation for the violation of their civil liberties.

During World War II, Franklin Roosevelt was a commander in chief who worked with and sometimes around his military advisers. He helped develop a strategy for defeating Germany in Europe through a series of invasions, first in North Africa in November 1942, then Sicily and Italy in 1943, followed by the D-Day invasion of Europe in 1944. At the same time, Allied forces rolled back Japan in Asia and the eastern Pacific. During this time, Roosevelt promoted the formation of the United Nations

In February, 1945, Franklin Roosevelt attended the Yalta Conference with British Prime Minister Winston Chuchill and Soviet General Secretary Joseph Stalin to discuss post-war reorganization. He then returned to the United States and the sanctuary of Warm Springs, Georgia. 

On the afternoon of April 12, 1945, Franklin D. Roosevelt suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage and died. The stress of World War II had taken its toll on his health, and in March, 1944, hospital tests indicated he had atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure. By Roosevelt’s side at his death were two cousins, Laura Delano and Margaret Suckley, and his former mistress Lucy Mercer Rutherford (by then a widow), with whom he had maintained his relationship.

Within hours of Franklin Roosevelt's passing, Vice President Harry S. Truman was summoned to the White House where he took the oath of office. FDR's sudden death shook the American public to its roots. Though many had noticed that he looked exhausted in photographs and newsreels, no one seemed prepared for his passing. 

Sambal

Famous as one of the best tropical countries, Indonesia provides tons of uniqueness and excitement. Its nature, culture, and art always bring millions of tourist each year. However, this time we are going to talk about one thing, Indonesia’s cuisine, in particular Sambal.

Sambal or sambel is infamous among tourist as the food of hell for its undeniable ability to make the consumer produces tears and sweat when eating. Produced using chili as its main ingredient, sambal is indeed taste extremely spicy.

Sambal is made by grinding ‘cabai’ or chili, along with several complements such as onion, cherry,  tomato, ‘terasi’, sugar, and salt. The ingredients are grinded using traditional tool made usually from wood or plastic. The texture is smooth with a vibrant color of green and red, depending on which chili you use.

Infamous among tourists for its spiciness, many tourists avoid it. However, some of them are challenged and try to eat it. Those who dare to try usually will get stomach ache or turn very red and sweaty in the face. Though super spicy, locals eat it in almost daily basis as their main meal.

For Indonesian, spicy foods have special spot in their hearts. Almost every provinces in Indonesia has hot, spicy dishes—and guess what, they are Indonesian’s all-time favorite. Padang, Manadonese, Bali cuisines are just a few of Indonesian’s signature spicy foods. Almost every area in Indonesia has specialty Sambal. Each area uses various ingredients to make hot, delicious, and visually appealing Sambal.
There are some variations of sambal. Sambal terasi is one of the most popular Indonesian sambal that you can find in almost everywhere. The raw Sambal is made from fresh chilies, tomato, terasi, and shallots. This sambal is perfect to be eaten with deep-fried fish, chicken, or duck and lalapan (assorted raw vegetables). But actually Sambal terasi goes right with every fried food 

..Should be erased :

1. The ingredients are grinded using traditional tool made usually from wood or plastic. plastic should be erased and change to stone. Because the traditional tool is not made by plastic. Plastic are modern tool.

2. Locals eat sambal in almost daily basis as their main meal. Sambal is not main meal, it just a complementary
3. Cherry. There is not sambal that made from cherry.
4. Tourist avoid sambals. actually, the tourist is curious and try to find it.

My Last Holiday

2 weeks ago, I went to Semarang for holiday with my parents. We stayed for a night at the hotel. Next morning, we came to Lawang Sewu. We’re moving around and took some photos of the building. Then we went to Magelang. We visited Prambanan Temple and Borobudur Temple. I ate some of Lumpia Semarang for lunch. After lunch, we went straight to Adisucipto airport at Jogja. I went back alone to Bandung, because my dad have some work there.

Then last week, i went to Makassar to attend my cousin’s wedding. I arrived at 2AM WITA. I stayed at my aunt’s home. The next day, I came with my mother to my cousin’s wedding hall and help her to decorate the hall. Me and my brother searching for wallpaper wall. We put the wallpaper around the hall. After that we came back home and start to cooking some food for catering. We cooked the desert too.

My cousin stayed at the other home, so at night I came there with my sister to sleep along with her. Next morning, I woke up first and preparing for the wedding. I took a bath at 4AM and then I watching cartoon until 5AM. I went to my nephew’s room and told him to take a bath before the other wake up and fighting over the bathroom. After he’s on bathroom, I serve a breakfast for him. I change my clothes at my mother’s room. And then I go first to the wedding hall with my father.

At the wedding hall. I stayed on the VIP room for the bride with my cousin and my sister. My sister took some photos of us. We went outside and downstairs to took a family photo. At 1PM, I went back to my aunt’s home and change my clothes then I went to the airport with my brother. He woke me up after we arrived at the airport. We took a lunch first then I went back to Bandung, while he went to Samarinda for work. My mother and sister would back home on the next day and my father back to Jakarta.

WHAT IS CHAMELEON?

• Chameleons are reptiles that are part of the iguana suborder. These colorful lizards are known as one of the few animals that can change skin color.
• There are many different sizes of Chameleon. It can grow up about 16 centimeters-70 centimeters long.
• Chameleons live in Madagascar, Africa, Spain, Portugal and Asia in rain forests, savannas, semi-deserts and steppes.
• Chameleon usually prey on crickets, bird, insect or mice.

CHAMELEON’S SKILL

• Chameleon can move his tongue faster than a fighter. They ballistically projecting their long tongue from their mouth to capture prey located some distance away. The chameleon’s tongue is typically thought to be 1.5 to 2 times the length of their body
• Chameleon has an unique eyes. Their eyes can move independently of each other, enabling them to look in two different directions at once. Chameleons have a full 360-degree view and can focus their eyes quickly and enlarge what they are looking at like a camera lens.
• Chameleons have a much wider visible range than us humans.

CHAMELEON FACTS

 Male chameleons are much more decorated than female chameleons and actually live longer.
 Chameleon can change his skin-color as a response to its emotions, such as anger or fear, changes in light, temperature or humidity.
 Chameleon has more than 100 species.
 Chameleon has a long-tongue that can move very fast.
 The Madagascan Chameleon has been labeled as the vertebrate with the world's shortest life span. Their eggs hatch in November, the young become adults in January, they lay eggs in February, and then the entire adult population perishes after a lifespan of just three months.
 The smallest Chameleon only grow up to 16 millimeters long.

CHAMELEON LIFE-CYCLE

• The size of the chameleon predicts how many eggs she will lay. Small chameleon species lay two to four eggs while larger chameleons lay 80 to 100 eggs at one time.
• Chameleon usually lay eggs 3-6 weeks after copulation on the ground or sand. The eggs will be aligned an buried by it’s mother.
• The eggs hatch after 4-12 months.
• Chameleons become mature at 1 to 2 years of age.

Experience in Gathapraya

Hello everyone, today i will tell you about my experience in Gathapraya. Gathapraya is a cultural festival organized by Senior High School 3 Bandung. Gathapraya was held on 30 September 2017. The concept was different than other because this event collaborated traditional culture with modern culture.

Before open gate in 12 o'clock, we had to be part of parade from Saparua to the field on Bali Street. The participants were children from kindergarten, elementary school, and all 10th grade Senior High School 3 Bandung.

The first performance are fashion show. Each of 10th grade classes had to sent 2 person to went fashion show. The dress code of the fashion show is traditional dress. And my class are X MIPA 4. Our theme is from Jawa Tengah.

This is me and my classmate wearing traditional dress at gathapraya.

And this is my picture with my junior high school friends.

After that, there are performance from extracurricular of Senior High School 3 Bandung namely TST (theater), MK3 (classical music), KPA (angklung), KV3 (vocal group), and Band 3.

There is also the appearance of  Didik Nini Thowok, Vina Candrawati, Elephant Kind, HIVI, Nidji, and many more.

I think this event is very interesting because in this event we can learn the traditonal culture more.

Planning For Holiday

At the break time Fira and Fai was chatting together.

Fai: "How was your exam?"

Fira : "It's a horrible. I just want to go holiday"

Fai : "Oh!Are you plannning for your holiday?"

Fira : "Of course i am"

Fai : "Where do you want to spend your holiday?"

Fira : "I really want to go to Egypt!"

Fai : "Really? Wow, you really plan your holiday seriously!"

Fira : "Of course. I want to see Pyramid"

Fai : "Why? Do you have a reason?'

Fira : "Because, The Pyramid's Carvings are wonderfull. I've seen it on television, so i must see the real one."

Fai : "Cool. Then what will you do then?"

Fira : "I will riding a camel."

An Old Lady with Her Kindness

I have an experience when i was on elementary school. In that time, i was on 5th grade. Everyday, after school i always playing with my friends on the front of school. We played some games like hide and seek.

While we waiting to be picked up, there's an old lady who selling peanuts. She said that she didn't have money for feed her grandchild. Then i run to my bag on the sidewalk. I take my wallet and go back to her. i took my money and give my money to her. She really thankful to me.

When i already at home, i realized that i lost my wallet. I search it on my bag until the smallest part, but i didn't find it. I was afraid of being scolded by my mother. I decided to search it again at school tomorrow.

On the next day, i search it on my desk at school, but, i still didn't find it. I go to my friend and ask her about my wallet, then she said 'Yesterday you gave your money to an old lady right?'. Then i sighed because i guess i can't see the old lady again. I thought of everything could've happened if my mother knew that my wallet was missing.

After the school bell rang, i came out of the gate gloomily. I'm afraid to go home. Almost all of my money is in the wallet. I really want to cry at that time. Until suddenly i saw the old lady walked to me.'You forgot your wallet, Miss.' she gave my wallet with a smile.I cried and hug her, i'm very grateful to her. She is really kind with her hard life, she still be a honest lady.

My Autobiography

Hello, my name is Dhinda Sausan Fairuz Qonsa. Just call me Fai. I was born in Nabire, Papua on 2nd August 2003. I'm in first grade on 3 Senior HighSchool. Actually, i moved a lot. On my third grade of Elementary School, i was moved to Magelang and back to Bandung on my fourth grade. Then i move to Makassar on my fifth grade then moved again to Bandung. Every school holiday, i always go to my parent's home. Whether it's in Jakarta or the other city.

My father is a Soldier, that's why i always came with my parent's into other city. Now, my father work at MABESAD in Jakarta. In Bandung, i live with my sister and brother. But now, my brother was wandering in Samarinda city. He's a Doctor and i want to be like him. He work at Abdul Muis Hospital. My sister is a Dentist, she's on her last semester and very busy. She always came late night. I hope she can rest well.

Last wednesday is my birthday and
